This is where the fun begins!
Start designing your new bed! Try drawing something on paper,
it doesn't
have to be fancy. "Hang out" around the yard and get a feel
for what you
might want. Use a garden hose to lay out your area. It's flexible
and will
give you a better visual image of the size you have in mind. Look
to see
where things like windows are, you don't want shrubs to cover them
and block
the light. Maybe you don't want to look at your air conditioning unit,
think
about planting around it to block the ugly view! Perhaps you're tired
of
looking at your neighbors messy yard, think about a living fence!
Your next plan of action is to go to local nurseries or garden centers.
You
don't have to buy anything right away, just get some ideas, ask questions,
find out how big plants get, how fast they'll grow and
how much sun they'll
need. These are important questions, the
wrong plant in the wrong place will
be a lot of work in the future. It may
require a lot of puring to maintain the
size you'd like or it may die from too much
or too little sun!
Combine shrubs and flowers, consider adding
gazing balls or stone figurines
as focal points. The most important thing to remember is
HAVE FUN!!
